Preferences Tutorial
The goal of this project is to set up a new network computer with your preferences and access to your files.
FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE CAREFULLY SO YOU DON'T LOSE ALL YOUR WORK!
Redefine your site:
- Log onto your new computer
- Open Dreamweaver
- If asked if you want to register your software, choose Don't Ask Again
- If you see the Default Editor dialog box, click OK to use the defaults
- Create a "new" site, and use the same name as you used for the site on your previous computer
- Use the same root folder and image folder
Reset or check your Preferences:
- Edit<Preferences or Ctrl+u
- Choose Preview in Browser
- Set Firefox as your Primary Browser
- Set Internet Explorer as your Secondary Browser
- Choose File Types/Editors
- Set Photoshop Elements 8.0 as the Primary Editor for the following file types:
- Adobe>Photoshop Elements 8.0>PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
- .png
- .gif
- .jpg .jpe .jpeg
- .psd
- To do this, select the file type, and then:
- Select the file type on the left
- click the + sign above the word Editors on the right
- Navigate to PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe . The icon will be light blue.
- adobe>Photoshop Elements 8.0>PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
- Double click the light blue PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe icon
- Click Make Primary
- Click Okay
- Repeat for each of the file types listed above
- Set Microsoft Word as the Primary Editor for .doc files. You will have to add .doc to your Extensions
- Microsoft Office>Office 11>WINWORD.EXE
- Whenever a dialog box comes up that asks you if you want Firefox to be your default browser, click Don't ask me again, and then click Yes
- Whenever a dialog box comes up that asks you if you want Internet Explorer to be your default browser, click Don't ask me again, and then click No
- Whenever a dialog box comes up that asks you if you want Safari to be your default browser, click Don't ask me again, and then click No
