Preferences Tutorial

The goal of this project is to set up a new network computer with your preferences and access to your files.

FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE CAREFULLY SO YOU DON'T LOSE ALL YOUR WORK!

Redefine your site:

  1. Log onto your new computer
  2. Open Dreamweaver
  3. If asked if you want to register your software, choose Don't Ask Again
  4. If you see the Default Editor dialog box, click OK to use the defaults
  5. Create a "new" site, and use the same name as you used for the site on your previous computer
  6. Use the same root folder and image folder

Reset or check your Preferences:

  1. Edit<Preferences or Ctrl+u
  2. Choose Preview in Browser
  3. Set Firefox as your Primary Browser
  4. Set Internet Explorer as your Secondary Browser
  5. Choose File Types/Editors
  6. Set Photoshop Elements 8.0 as the Primary Editor for the following file types:
      1. Adobe>Photoshop Elements 8.0>PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
        1. .png
        2. .gif
        3. .jpg .jpe .jpeg
        4. .psd
      2. To do this, select the file type, and then:
        1. Select the file type on the left
        2. click the + sign above the word Editors on the right
        3. Navigate to PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe . The icon will be light blue.
          1. adobe>Photoshop Elements 8.0>PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
        4. Double click the light blue PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe icon
        5. Click Make Primary
        6. Click Okay
        7. Repeat for each of the file types listed above
  7. Set Microsoft Word as the Primary Editor for .doc files. You will have to add .doc to your Extensions
    1. Microsoft Office>Office 11>WINWORD.EXE
  8. Whenever a dialog box comes up that asks you if you want Firefox to be your default browser, click Don't ask me again, and then click Yes
  9. Whenever a dialog box comes up that asks you if you want Internet Explorer to be your default browser, click Don't ask me again, and then click No
  10. Whenever a dialog box comes up that asks you if you want Safari to be your default browser, click Don't ask me again, and then click No
